SLB Unveils Sequestri to Boost Safe Carbon Storage and Industrial Decarbonisation

Schlumberger NV (SLB), the global energy technology leader, has launched Sequestri™, a new portfolio of carbon storage offerings for accelerating industrial decarbonization. The solution can be applied to all industries and is designed to make safe, efficient, and cost-effective underground carbon storage possible.

The technology bundle facilitates organisations and carbon project developers to deal with the full carbon storage life cycle — from planning and site identification through to implementation and long-term monitoring. SLB's solution integrates digital platforms and physical infrastructure in a single-umbrella system for securely and accurately managing carbon storage operations.

SLB depicts Sequestri as constructed on top of the company's 25 years of CCS experience and as an extension of its overall strategy to assist industries in reducing carbon emissions. Sequestri provides digital workflows that integrate and coordinate all facets of CCS projects. Those workflows assist companies in data analysis, future-scenario modeling, and facilitating informed decision-making. End-to-end digital strategy aims to improve project performance, minimize operational risk, and provide long-term site reliability.

The Sequestri portfolio comprises not only digital equipment but also hard parts such as subsurface safety valves, CO₂-resistant measuring tools, and state-of-the-art cementing solutions like EverCRETE™, whose long-term resistance to carbon dioxide has been designed. This equipment is critical to the maintenance of underground storage rock structures to ensure the long-term integrity and safety of carbon storage reservoirs.

This is followed by the roll-out of SLB's Capturi™ carbon capture technology, which targets capturing emissions at source before they reach the atmosphere. With Capturi and Sequestri combined, the company now has an end-to-end CCS solution — from carbon capture to secure geological storage.

This joint offering is designed to address the needs of energy, manufacturing, and heavy transport sectors being compelled to decarbonise according to global climate targets. CCS technologies have also been picking up pace as an address to increasing environmental controls and greater stakeholder expectations around ESG performance.

SLB's investment in replicable CCS infrastructure is in line with a larger industry movement towards decarbonisation solution digitalisation. The company reminds that such digital platforms like Sequestri are fundamental to open, performance-optimising, and long-term success of carbon storage operations.

Carbon capture and storage is generally seen as the most viable technology to mitigate industrial greenhouse gas emissions. Its implementation, though, hinges on cost minimization, safety assurance, and reducing long-term risk on the project level. Solutions such as Sequestri try to break these limitations and provide an end-to-end, complete solution.

The hardware that comes with the Sequestri platform is designed specifically to support new and old CCS projects and a range of various different geological and industrial environments. Hardware is also designed to support changing industry standards so that businesses are able to future-proof their infrastructure.

Rollout of such technologies complies with global climate agreements and pledges, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 2015 Paris Agreement. Carbon storage is crucial in achieving world targets in reducing temperature increase and preventing the worst effects of climate change.

As companies around the world look for sound means of lowering emissions without affecting business operations, SLB's new offering will address an increasing market need for resilient, turnkey CCS solutions.
