Unusual Winter Heatwave Grips Kerala as North India Battles Freezing Temperatures
Northern India is battling extreme weather conditions during the winter season, but Kerala is battling abnormal high temperatures that may culminate into a heatwave. On December 31, the state recorded its highest temperature for December — 37.2°C — for the month at Kannur. Heatwave-like conditions prevail for most of the month over the north of Kerala where the mercury only sticks way above average.
Kannur, which experienced long heat waves from December 14 to 19, saw temperatures in some parts of the State. The district reported a long series of warmth also during the first week of January 2025. More districts in Kerala- Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, and Punalur-have also been reporting well above normal temperature. Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam have also seen south Kerala. It has the worst scorching heat wave, which was reported during the recent time. Northern Kerala is not spared of the rising spate either.
