White Summit Capital Raises €350M for Decarbonization Fund
White Summit Capital has taken a major leap in its journey to accelerate the global energy transition by raising over €350 million in the first close of its Decarbonization Infrastructure Fund II (WDIF-II). The milestone is already above half the target size of the fund at €500 million and is a reflection of strong investor confidence in the strategy. The commitments come from a very diverse group of over 10 blue-chip investors, including the European Investment Fund, global asset managers, insurance companies, institutional investors, and family offices. The next closing is scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.
The fund focuses on bridging the energy transition funding gap by investing in mid-market infrastructure platforms across Western Europe. It aims to support sectors integral to achieving net-zero targets, such as renewable energy integration, sustainable transportation, and industrial decarbonization. White Summit Capital has positioned itself as a key enabler of the region's energy transition by fostering partnerships with companies that have strong leadership and scalability potential.
Gonzalo López Medina, managing partner at White Summit Capital, discussed the fund's unique market position: "Where energy transition overlaps with energy security in our sweet spot, industrial companies and platforms will find us the perfect co-investing partner for achieving scale. And we see immense off-market flow in the mid-market.
The fund’s strategic approach is reflected in its initial seed investments, which aim to catalyze change in critical areas of energy efficiency and renewable integration. One such investment is Powesco, a France-based platform offering energy-efficiency-as-a-service. Powesco enables buildings to reduce energy consumption through long-term service contracts without requiring upfront capital. The platform addresses a €40 billion market opportunity and meets France's regulatory mandates on requiring large buildings to cut energy use by 60% by 2050. With the innovative business model, along with its favorable regulatory environment, Powesco is going to see huge growth in the coming days.
Another significant seed investment is Transiziona, the Iberian renewable integration platform. It is a combination of hydro, wind, solar, and storage to deliver innovative energy solutions. The initial portfolio is mini-hydro assets in Portugal that have performed strongly and show good potential for hybridization with other renewable technologies. Transiziona reflects White Summit Capital's commitment to fostering scalable, future-proof renewable platforms that align with Europe's goals for energy independence.
Speaking on the broader decarbonization opportunity, Pablo Pallas, another managing partner at White Summit Capital, termed it "both a necessity and a generational investment opportunity." He added that the fund will invest in downside-protected investments generating solid, sustainable returns. The fund will invest in projects scalable with huge opportunities in the market to capture Europe's demand for cleaner, efficient energy solutions.
The industrial leaders in which White Summit Capital has a partnership, including Cemex and Marubeni, also offer the company better access to an attractive pipeline of investment opportunities. Such partnerships also bring operational know-how and market understanding that enable the fund to operate within the difficult landscape of the energy transition.
Europe’s commitment to energy independence and sustainable energy access creates a favorable market environment for funds like WDIF-II. The continent’s push to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, coupled with regulatory and policy support for renewable integration, underscores the urgency of investing in scalable infrastructure solutions.
White Summit Capital will help mid-market platforms develop new, innovative solutions addressing key decarbonization challenges, based on the leverage of industrial partnerships. Once it reaches the goal of raising €500 million, its strategic investments and partnerships will play an essential role in forming the energy infrastructure of Western Europe.
The first close of WDIF-II is evidence that White Summit Capital has managed to attract sizeable capital and identify impactful investment opportunities. In itself, the fund is a proof of the decarbonization potential but also sends a clear message to investors of confidence in the transformative power of sustainable infrastructure development.
