At G7 Summit, Modi Advocates Transparency and Solidarity in International Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reiterated the importance of trust, transparency, and solidarity in international partnerships at the G7 Summit taking place in Evian, France titled “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity” in the Outreach Session.

Addressing a world of rising uncertainty, the Prime Minister acknowledged that issues around energy, food, health, cyber security and economic security are closely intertwined in the modern world and international collaboration, a requirement rather than an option. He warned of a growing trust deficit across the world due to the use of trade and technology to serve narrow national interests.

Building on the lessons learnt from the COVID-19 crisis, Modi urged all countries to bring trust and transparency as the core principle of future global cooperation. He reiterated that India's approach to international cooperation is guided by the principle of “humanity first” and said that this principle is being followed in the activities undertaken by the country in projects like International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuel Alliance, Mission LiFE and Ek Ped Maa ke Naam initiative.

The Prime Minister also highlighted India's role as a first responder during natural disasters, citing assistance provided to several countries affected by cyclones, earthquakes and floods. These reflect India's inclusive and responsible approach to international cooperation.

Modi highlighted India's development vision of “Sarv Jan Hitaye, Sarv Jan Sukhaye”—welfare and happiness for all highlighting the outcomes it has borne in financial inclusion, access to healthcare, digital identity, empowerment through technology and women-led development.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of cooperation in the future, again calling on international partnership to go beyond a donor-recipient approach, and into becoming one which is shared and based on mutual respect. He also highlighted violations of international law as one of the challenges to global solidarity, and reiterated the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for peace and stability.
