Cairn Cuts 89,770 Tn CO₂ in FY25, Equal to 4.5 Mn Trees
Cairn Oil & Gas reports reductions in emissions, waste and methane, alongside social and workforce inclusion initiatives in its FY25 sustainability report.
Cairn Oil & Gas, on Thursday, said that it has reduced 89,770 tonnes of CO2e emissions from its operations, which is equivalent to planting 4.5 million trees per year in its Sustainability Report for FY25. The company has shown progress in environmental, social and governance (ESG). According to the report, the firm has reduced 76,220 tonnes of carbon emissions this year. Cairn Oil & Gas has compared this reduction to planting more than 8 thousand trees each day for the whole year.
Over the last five years, Cairn reports a cumulative reduction of more than 300,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. The company also indicates a 57% decline in flaring volume since 2020, while more than 98% of generated waste has been diverted for reuse, recycling or energy recovery. Cairn’s operations continued to remain water positive, with an NPWI (Net Positive Water Index) of 1.18 in FY25.
Cairn joined the United Nations Environment Programme’s Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0) in 2024 and has committed to a 30% reduction in absolute methane emissions over the next five years. The company’s methane target and roadmap have received a “Gold Standard Pathway” status.
On social impact, the report highlights initiatives in healthcare, education, agriculture, animal husbandry and skill development across operational areas in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Assam. According to the report, these programmes have reached approximately 195 million people over the last five years.
On workforce inclusion, Cairn reports 22% gender diversity across the organisation, including 22% women in decision-making positions and 13% in leadership roles. The report also indicates a 90% reduction in lost-time injury frequency rate over the last five years.
The company states that it aims to increase gender representation to 30% by 2030 and continue integrating low-carbon technology solutions and methane abatement measures in line with its long-term net-zero goals.
