Dabur India has signed an agreement with GreenLine Mobility Solutions (GLMS) for the introduction of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)-powered trucks into its logistics fleet as part of its strategy to decarbonise freight operations. The shift comes as part of a broader effort by Indian consumer goods companies to reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining delivery efficiency, as road transportation contributes a substantial share of the nation's greenhouse gas emissions.

Although LNG-powered trucks still produce emissions, they generally emit lower carbon emissions than diesel trucks. They also contribute to cleaner air and better public health by reducing particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions. This makes LNG a transitional solution for Indian logistics as the sector moves towards greater electrification.

With the support of Essar, GreenLine Mobility Solutions has more than 1,000 LNG and electric vehicles operating on key freight corridors serving the FMCG, mining, chemical and other sectors. Its vehicles have covered more than 100 million kilometres and reduced clients' CO₂ emissions by over 27,000 tonnes, according to GreenLine Mobility Solutions. The company is also expanding infrastructure to support low-emission freight through its subsidiary, Ultra Gas and Energy, which is developing a nationwide network of LNG refuelling stations.

The LNG initiative is part of Dabur India's broader sustainability strategy. The company has also invested in expanding nursery infrastructure to grow medicinal plants, among other initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of its supply chain.

While electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles are gaining ground in India's logistics industry, LNG trucks are emerging as a transitional alternative as regulators, consumers and investors increasingly call for stronger ESG performance.
