ENGIE Wins 100 MW SECI Solar Project in Rajasthan

ENGIE has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with SECI for a 100 MW solar project in Barmer, Rajasthan. Expected to be commissioned in 2027, the project strengthens ENGIE’s renewable portfolio in India, expands its 2.5 GW national capacity, and supports India’s clean-energy transition.

ENGIE Wins 100 MW SECI Solar Project in Rajasthan

ENGIE has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to create a 100 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic project in Barmer, Rajasthan. The new facility is expected to be commissioned in 2027 and will diversify the company’s renewable energy portfolio and support India’s move to sustainable power production.

Barmer has extremely high solar irradiance, making it an excellent resource for large-scale solar development. The project will benefit from existing network and infrastructure in the growing infrastructure hub for utility-scale renewable energy and with this project, ENGIE’s total capacity in Rajasthan will approach around 1 gigawatt (GW), further emphasizing the importance of the state within ENGIE’s national strategy.

This new project expands upon ENGIE's existing partnership with SECI and its experience in developing high-performing solar systems across India. Previous projects include the 200 MW Raghnesda Solar Power Plant in Gujarat built during the pandemic, the 250 MW Kadapa project in Andhra Pradesh enhanced with new inverter technology to deliver clean energy, and the 140 MW Bhadla project in Rajasthan working with robotic, waterless cleaning systems to enable desert operations.

ENGIE's overall capacity in India is approximately 2.5 GW, spread across 23 renewable projects in seven states, and the company remains focused on improving efficiency through digital-led innovation, sustainable operations, and community-centred development. The Barmer project is expected to generate local jobs during construction and operation while also allowing ENGIE to fulfil India’s renewable energy targets.

ENGIE has 300 MW operational in Rajasthan and continues to play a key role in the clean energy mix in the state. The Barmer project adds additional scale and reliability to the solar infrastructure at a time when energy demand is increasing with economic growth. The project also contributes to India’s commitment to expand low-carbon generation while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The partnership with SECI embodies ENGIE’s dedication to disciplined project delivery and long-lasting value creation in India's renewable ecosystem. The company's goal is to achieve a similar track record of performance as its previous solar projects while delivering high quality of service and addressing India's wider clean energy priorities.

As ENGIE enters the commissioning phase for the Barmer facility, it reinforces its role as a partner in India's energy transition. The project represents further positive steps toward scaling renewable capacity and moving toward a resilient, low-carbon future.
