Envision Energy Launches 50MW Wind Project in Sri Lanka’s Mannar

Envision Energy has entered Sri Lanka’s renewable energy market with a 50 megawatt (MW) wind power project in the Mannar region. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The project will deploy 10 EN-156 5.0 MW wind turbines, each with a hub height of 110 metres. The turbines are expected to generate about 207 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually for the national grid.

The wind farm is being developed by HayWind One Limited, a subsidiary of Hayleys PLC. Envision Energy will supply the turbines and provide operations and maintenance services. Engineering and site execution will involve Hayleys Solar and Hayleys Fentons Limited.

Mannar, along Sri Lanka’s northwestern coast, is a high-wind zone. Coastal conditions, including humidity and salinity, require corrosion-resistant equipment. The turbines have been fitted with anti-corrosion systems designed for a 20-year operational life.

Sri Lanka is expanding its renewable energy capacity to meet rising demand and reduce dependence on imported fuels. Wind energy in the northern and northwestern regions is part of this strategy.

Winston Xu, General Manager for Envision Energy’s Southeast Asia region, said the project aligns with the company’s regional operations. Hasith Prematillake, Managing Director of Hayleys Fentons Limited, said the project will add domestically generated power to the grid. Roshane Perera, Director and CEO of Hayleys Solar, said engineering teams have been deployed to manage site conditions.

The Mannar project represents additional private-sector participation in Sri Lanka’s wind energy sector.
