India and Germany are strengthening cooperation in renewable energy, green hydrogen and clean technologies to enhance energy security and support a sustainable energy transition.
India and Germany have reiterated their commitment to working together on renewable energy, green hydrogen and sustainable infrastructure to improve energy security and support their clean energy goals.
The discussions took place during the 10th Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) Conversation Series, where government officials, industry leaders and experts stressed the importance of global cooperation in tackling energy and climate challenges. Both countries have been collaborating under the GSDP framework to promote renewable energy, climate action and sustainable development.
Focus on Energy Security and Clean Energy
It was emphasised that renewable energy has increasing significance in order to decrease dependency on fossil fuels and increase energy security in the long run. Given the uncertainties of energy market in the global world, nations are seeking diversification in terms of the source of energy through adopting solar, wind, and other renewables.
Among other issues discussed, the topic of green hydrogen as a potential future fuel that could be used to reduce carbon emissions in hard-to-abate sectors like steel production, fertilizer manufacturing, and transportation has also been brought up. India and Germany have started cooperating on the topic recently.
Expanding Areas of Cooperation
In addition to power generation, both the nations have taken into consideration collaboration opportunities in energy storage, grid modernization, climate finance, and clean technology innovation. It was stressed that enhanced cooperation would assist in speeding up technology adoption and investment as well as the creation of energy systems that are resilient.
Under the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership, Germany has also pledged substantial funding for the development of renewable energy, green hydrogen, and climate-resilient infrastructure projects in India.
Renewable Energy and Economic Growth
Industry experts highlighted that investment in renewable energy could lead to a number of positive outcomes, such as the creation of jobs, economic growth and lower carbon emission levels. International collaboration was seen as a critical component in the advancement of renewable energy in India due to the increasing use of this energy source.
Moreover, it was stressed during the discussion that there is a need for the right mix of security, affordability and sustainability when countries pursue their long-term climate agenda. The issue of knowledge exchange and policy cooperation was also highlighted by both Indian and German representatives.
