Microsoft has  strengthened its  cooperation with carbon  junking company UNDO through a new agreement to permanently remove  28,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide by 2036. The deal is financed by the Inlandsis Fund, managed by Fondaction Asset Management, and marks an important  corner in advancing large- scale,  wisdom- backed carbon  junking technologies.

The agreement builds on an ongoing collaboration between Microsoft and UNDO, a Scotland- grounded enhanced  gemstone riding ( ERW)  establishment. It also represents Inlandsis’ first investment in ERW and its first Canadian  design under its alternate fund. This collaboration is part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to achieve its 2030 carbon-negative target and showcases the growing investor confidence in mineral- grounded carbon  insulation  results.

The Inlandsis backing will enable full  design delivery while establishing a scalable model for  unborn high- integrity ERW  systems in new regions. This deal represents Microsoft’s third carbon  junking contract with UNDO since 2023. preliminarily, the company bought  5,000 tonnes and  15,000 tonnes of  vindicated carbon disposals from UNDO. Together, the three contracts bring Microsoft’s total commitment with the company to nearly  49,000 tonnes, reflecting its strong confidence in ERW’s long- term  eventuality and scientific  continuity.

UNDO’s Author and CEO, Jim Mann, echoed this sentiment, stating that innovative backing mechanisms are  crucial to  transubstantiating carbon  junking into a mainstream, investable asset class. He described the collaboration with Inlandsis and Microsoft as an  illustration of how  fiscal  invention can accelerate the deployment of gigatonne- scale carbon  junking  systems worldwide.

Enhanced  gemstone riding , the  system employed by UNDO, accelerates natural mineralization by spreading finely crushed silicate  gemstone across agrarian land. This process captures atmospheric CO ₂ while  contemporaneously  perfecting soil health and crop productivity. The carbon dioxide binds permanently with the  gemstone minerals,  icing long- term  insulation. Phillip Goodman, Director of Microsoft’s Carbon junking Portfolio, described ERW as “ a promising pathway to gigatonne- scale carbon  junking. ” He emphasized that UNDO’s scientific rigor and transparent verification processes are central to Microsoft’s confidence in the  continuity and credibility of its carbon credits. According to Goodman,  similar  systems are essential for helping Microsoft meet its  thing of  getting carbon negative by 2030.

The new  design under this agreement will take place in Ontario, Canada, and will feature integrated systems for carbon  dimension, verification, and long- term monitoring. These  rudiments are designed to  insure the traceability and permanence of the captured carbon,  crucial aspects for attracting large- scale climate finance.
