Assam’s women-led environmental efforts and tree plantation initiatives received praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day.
Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Assamese people on an important initiative by them in protecting the environment in the state and applauded women for their dedication and contributions to create a sustainable world.
The Prime Minister said on ‘X', on the occasion of World Environment Day that Assam has raised the world's attention on tree plantation and Assam's Nari Shakti has played an important role in the endeavour. He also noted the leadership demonstrated by women in the state here is indicative of India's increasing grassroots movement on sustainability.
The Prime Minister's words were echoed by Utpal Biswas, Representative of ICAR-Central Flower Research Institute, who said, "A commendable feat. Congratulations to the people of Assam, particularly the Nari Shakti of Assam, for leading this effort towards building a sustainable planet."
The recognition comes at a time when communities across the country are increasingly participating in environmental action, especially when considering environmental protection linked to taking part in the community. Across Assam, a variety of conservation work are underway, building environmental stewardship amongst the community, with the active participation of self-help groups and the women's collectives.
The Prime Minister's words highlighted the importance of including all people in the fight against climate and environmental issues. He highlighted the role of women's leadership as a reminder of the Government's focus on women's empowerment as a main component of sustainable development and long-term environmental sustainability.
