Taiwan's 640 MW Offshore Wind Farm a Boon for Clean Energy

Taiwan's Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm Now Fully Operational
YUNLIN, TAIWAN – The Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm, one of the biggest offshore wind farms in Taiwan, has been fully operational since last week. The farm has brought 640 megawatts into Taiwan's grid. This is another step toward Taiwan's goal of renewable energy and away from fossil fuel dependence.

This is the offshore wind farm that can provide non-industrial electric power to more than 90% of demand in Yunlin County. Every one of the 80 WTGs to be turned on and functional was to be powering a household and commercial power user. TBC routes electricity onshore through the two substations of Taixi and Sihu townships.

Supports the Commitment for Renewable Energy by Taiwan
Yunlin OWF activation is, on record, aligned with the national goal of Taiwan having offshore wind capacity of 5.7 GW by 2025. The country is undergoing a massive change towards renewable resources and keeping its climate promise.

Taiwan Strait is some 8 to 17 km from the west coast of Taiwan. The depth ranges from 7 meters to 35 meters in water levels. The covered area by the turbines will be 82 square kilometers in the water area.

Environmental Impact
Economic Impact
It is expected to have projected capacity for a wind farm at around 640 MW, meaning power supply up to 600,000 households. Its year-on-year cuts in carbon-dioxide emissions stand at 1.2 million tons, something that should quickly deliver quite consequential contributions to those environmental sustainability objectives set by Taiwan's government.
All stages of the project have been fully supported by the governments both in development and construction by the Taiwanese and international financial institutions.

Development and Management Project
The joint company is Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd. Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd. establishes and manages Yunlin OWF through Skyborn, TotalEnergies, Electricity Generating Public Co., and Sojitz. The former shall take over the full technical management by the time the project has attained its COD by June 2025.

Conclusion
The completion of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm is a giant leap in Taiwan's renewable energy transition. Continued offshore wind investment means such developments will be highly visible in improving energy security, cutting carbon emissions, and helping the country meet its sustainability targets.
