Tamil Nadu Announces Special Package for Paddy Farmers and International Exposure Visit
Tamil Nadu announces a ₹160 crore special package for paddy farmers, along with an international exposure visit, agroforestry policy, and crop insurance support to boost agricultural growth.

India's Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, has also emphasized the need for embracing sustainable lifestyle choices that are available, affordable, and accessible to all consumers without compromising the fundamental rights of consumers. During the World Consumer Rights Day webinar on March 15, 2025, in a video message, Joshi emphasized the need to transition to sustainability without placing consumers under financial stress.
The Quest for Sustainable Consumer Policies
Joshi further opined that sustainable living is essential to combat climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution. He further noted that India possesses a strong historical record of consumer protection and sustainability, which have been central to its governance for centuries.
The government is aggressively involved in driving sustainable consumer policies. This means enhancing eco-labeling schemes, strengthening regulatory mechanisms against greenwashing, and raising consumer awareness on false claims. The focus is shifting from consumer protection to consumer care and interest, ensuring consumers are well informed as well as protected from false marketing practices.
Government Initiatives for Sustainable Living
In its mission towards sustainability, the government is promoting green production processes and encouraging industries to adopt green innovations. Joshi reiterated that making green products affordable and accessible is a key priority.
Additionally, the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to replace the traditional 'use-and-dispose' economy with a circular economy that encourages mindful consumption and sustainable utilization of resources. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a zero-carbon lifestyle, the initiative urges people to choose sustainable options in daily life.
Consumer Responsibility in the Sustainability Transition
Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare pointed out that sustainable living must not become expensive, unaffordable, and exhausting for the consumer. She contended that sustainability must complement India's ethos and values of the culture so that consumers at all levels benefit from the transformation.
The government is also closely monitoring essential commodities to prevent price volatility from causing economic hurdles to adopting sustainability practices. The consumer is urged to play an active role in bringing about the change by making conscious choices, reducing waste, and buying eco-friendly products.
Conclusion
India is seriously working towards making sustainable living a success story for its citizens. Policy reforms, consumer education, and industrial sustainability focus of the government are all part of making equitable transition a people-friendly and earth-friendly process. Making eco-friendly choices affordable and available to all, India is moving towards a greener and more sustainable future.
