Andhra Sugars has issued its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR) for FY 2024-25. The company is focusing on its sustainability and responsible business in all its businesses. They are behaving responsibly towards the society and economy as well as the environment. The company is engaged in both heavy industries and pharmaceuticals such as manufacturing chemicals, sugar, aspirin. ASL follows all 9 NGRBC principles and ensures its internal policies and day-to-day practices follow these principles. ASL in not limited to compliance. The firm builds ethical governance, employee well being and community development into its business operations.
Environmental Performance
ASL is taking strong steps to protect environment and use natural resources efficiently across its facilities in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. During the year, the company achieved a total energy consumption of 2.62 million GJ, with continued focus to make its operations more efficient by reducing the amount of energy used for each rupee of revenue. It is also investing in wind and solar plants that together generates more than 19 MW of electricity, promoting renewable energy adoption.
To prevent water pollution, the company follows follow Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system at Tanuku and Saggonda units. It used about 1.56 million kilolitres of water during the year and every drop was used efficiently. In terms of greenhouse gases, the company’s direct emissions were around 473,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. However, to reduce these emissions, the company has taken several steps to reduce these emissions such as reusing carbon dioxide in its salicylic acid production, solar expansion, and wind energy installations to cut emissions further.
Employee Welfare and Safety
The company has a total 2,536 employees and workers. All are covered under health and accident insurance. It also maintained a safety record during the year which reports no deaths or major accidents in workplace maintained a high safety compliance rate. In addition to safety, the ASL trains all its employee to improve their skills, raise awareness about workplace safety and sustainability. The company also believes in equal opportunities at the workplace. It provides facilities and infrastructure to differently abled employees.
Governance and Ethical Practices
ASL follows transparent governance practices. The company operates its business by following strict rules to its Code of Conduct, Whistle-blower Policy, and Corporate Risk Management Policy. The company was not penalized, involved in corruption cases, or faced data breaches during FY 2024-25 because of these strict systems and standards.
CSR and Community Development
The Andhra Sugars Limited conducts its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities to help the communities. It operates in healthcare, education, safe drinking water supply, and environmental conservation. The company does not only finance these projects but also remains in touch with the individuals it is assisting. By holding periodic community meetings, it hears their complaints.
