Tunwal Joins Pune Students for Mula-Mutha River Clean-Up Drive

More than 1,200 students from institutions across Pune participated in a clean-up and awareness drive along the Mula-Mutha River bank at Deccan on Sunday with support from Tunwal E-Motors.

The drive, titled “White T-Shirt Revolution – River Cleaning Drive”, focused on clearing plastic waste, debris, and other discarded materials from the riverfront. Organisers said more than 600 kilograms of waste was collected and handed over to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for disposal.

The Mula-Mutha River has been affected by pollution and waste dumping linked to urban expansion in Pune. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about river pollution and public cleanliness initiatives.

Tunwal provided clean-up kits and participated in the drive. Students also conducted awareness activities on plastic waste, waste disposal, and river conservation.

Those present at the event included PMC Corporator Alpana Varpe, Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chauhan, Pune Marathon Committee representative Abhay Chajjed, and Anil Kawade from the Sugar Cooperation Department, Government of Maharashtra.

Jhumarmal Tunwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Tunwal, said student-led participation was important for environmental awareness programmes.

The Mula-Mutha River continues to be part of discussions related to pollution control, sewage management, and urban planning in Pune.

Tunwal E-Motors, established in 2018 and headquartered in Pune, manufactures electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
