Uttarakhand has approved over ₹500 crore for infrastructure, Ganga Corridor redevelopment and small hydropower projects, aiming to boost tourism, energy and economic activity.
The government of Uttarakhand has sanctioned financial allocations of over ₹500 crore for infrastructure development, riverfront development schemes, and small hydel projects. The government is working towards strengthening basic infrastructure and promoting economic activities in the state.
The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved the proposals for financial allocations for infrastructure development across departments and for ongoing mega projects. The government approved an allocation of ₹150 crore for infrastructure development and ₹350 crore for ongoing mega projects under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme.
Furthermore, an allocation of ₹106.78 crore for the development of Triveni Ghat has been granted for the Rishikesh Ganga Corridor project. The Centre has also approved an allocation of ₹11.37 crore for the first phase of the project in the 2025-26 financial year.
The Ganga Corridor project is expected to include riverfront development schemes. The project aims to improve public infrastructure and facilities for visitors in Rishikesh. The project is expected to promote tourism activities in the area.
The approvals also cover small hydel power projects, which are part of the state’s overall energy strategy. Small hydel power projects are usually intended for decentralised power generation, mainly in hilly areas where power supply is limited.
The funding package also includes initiatives for strengthening the administration and promoting enterprise development, said the Chief Minister’s Office. The allocation is intended to address several sectors simultaneously, such as infrastructure development, energy, and tourism sectors.
The decisions are likely to boost the execution of projects. The implementation of these decisions will depend on the coordination of different departments. The Chief Minister has directed the authorities to ensure the timely execution of approved projects. The state is adopting a trend of utilising capital investment schemes for the development of the state through infrastructure development. River corridor development and hydel power development in Uttarakhand are being presented as mutually beneficial initiatives. River corridor development in Uttarakhand is being presented in association with hydel power development.
However, the effectiveness of such allocation will depend on the capacity of execution. Previous infrastructure projects undertaken in the hill states have also faced challenges in the terrain, funding utilisation, and environmental clearances.
The latest clearances indicate a multi-sectoral approach to development, which includes infrastructure development, renewable energy and tourism-linked sectors. The state is looking to strengthen its economy
