DP World launches EcoRoute to help businesses reduce logistics emissions and improve supply chain resilience.
DP World has launched EcoRoute, a new logistics solution aimed at reducing supply chain emissions, improving logistics resilience, and enhancing Scope 3 emissions management for businesses. The platform uses network optimization, lower-carbon transport options, emissions measurement, carbon insetting, and strategic partnerships to help companies manage complex global supply chains.
This launch comes as freight and logistics contribute significantly to global energy-related CO₂ emissions, accounting for about 10% of total emissions. Growing regulatory scrutiny, investor expectations, and the demand for greater transparency are pushing companies to strengthen their carbon reduction strategies, sustainable logistics, and supply chain reporting practices.
New platform targets logistics-related climate challenges
EcoRoute is designed to assist companies in tackling emissions generated across transportation networks, which is a significant part of their Scope 3 emissions. DP World stated that the platform aims to boost supply chain efficiency while helping businesses track and reduce environmental impacts related to logistics operations.
The solution combines digital tools, operational expertise, and lower-emission transport options to help companies evaluate logistics decisions based on cost, reliability, and environmental performance. DP World stated that this approach aims to integrate sustainability measures into regular supply chain operations instead of treating emissions reduction as a separate task.
Network optimization and lower-carbon transport solutions
A key feature of EcoRoute is supply chain network planning. This focuses on improving asset utilization, route efficiency, and operational resilience. DP World stated that its logistics solutions help companies manage transportation needs while lowering carbon intensity.
In Africa, the company reported that its Logistics Control Tower helped a major retailer increase transported volumes by 45% while boosting fleet size by only 5%. Vehicle utilization improved to 88%, enhancing operational performance and reducing inefficiencies.
EcoRoute also supports modal shifts, alternative fuel transportation, electric mobility solutions, and lower-carbon warehouses. These measures help businesses find practical ways to reduce emissions across different stages of supply chain operations.
India corridor records transport emissions reduction
DP World noted that one customer in India achieved a 78% reduction in transport emissions on the Chennai to Kolkata corridor by using a multimodal rail-to-coastal transport solution. The company stated that this approach improved logistics reliability and lowered costs.
This example illustrates the growing emphasis on combining climate action with operational improvements. Companies are increasingly looking for solutions that can cut emissions without adding complexity or affecting supply chain performance.
Carbon insetting supports Scope 3 reduction efforts
EcoRoute also features carbon insetting programs designed to aid emissions reductions within supply chains. Unlike traditional offsetting methods, carbon insetting focuses on climate actions that are directly connected to a company’s own operations.
DP World reported that its carbon insetting programs at Southampton and London Gateway generated over 9,400 tonnes of verified CO₂ insets in 2025, covering 257,000 TEU of cargo flows.
These programs aim to provide businesses with clearer connections between sustainability investments and supply chain improvements while meeting reporting and governance requirements.
Emissions tracking and data-based decision making
Another part of EcoRoute is emissions measurement through a Carbon Emissions Calculator powered by EcoTransIT World and aligned with ISO 14083 standards. This tool offers visibility across various transport modes, allowing companies to compare emissions impacts and spot reduction opportunities.
Better emissions data is increasingly crucial as businesses prepare for stricter climate disclosure requirements. Accurate measurement allows companies to assess supply chain risks and develop more targeted reduction plans.
Focus on partnerships and future supply chain resilience
DP World mentioned that EcoRoute encourages collaboration with customers and strategic partners to link lower-carbon logistics with broader environmental and social initiatives. The company noted that the platform reflects a shift in supply chain management, where climate performance, operational efficiency, and resilience are closely connected.
Beat Simon, DP World Group Chief Operating Officer, Logistics, said the platform aims to help customers lower emissions while improving efficiency through better connectivity, data, and operational expertise.
Ayla Bajwa, DP World Group Senior Vice President – Sustainability, said EcoRoute gives businesses tools and partnerships to cut emissions across complex supply chains while supporting broader environmental and social goals.
As companies face growing pressure to manage climate risks, supply chain emissions are becoming a focal point of business strategy. DP World’s EcoRoute initiative reflects the industry's move toward logistics systems that blend emissions reduction, transparency, and reliable operations.
