Havells Cuts GHG Emissions By 4.54%: BRSR Report

Havells India, in its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR), reported a 4.54% reduction in per-tonne GHG emissions in FY 2024–25. 

In the same year, the company has installed 4.4 MW solar power plants at Havells Alwar and Sricity facility, scaling up our total solar power capacity to 15.6 MW (approximately). With this, they are meeting 10% of our total electricity requirement through renewable energy sources and have achieved a significant 10,992 tCO2 e emissions reduction in FY 2024-25.

It is also mentioned that the company has saved 30,000 litres of diesel from the operations as compared to FY 2023-24 by substituting Diesel fuel requirement with PNG.

Water Management
Havells is addressing water stress through a multi-pronged approach, including utilising lower quality water sources, prioritising water conservation, and implementing demand management strategies. 

In FY 2024–25, the company reduced its water consumption by about 5% and recycled 42% of the water it used. It is said that a total water withdrawal of 315.61 megalitres across all its locations, with 175.65 megalitres coming from identified water stress areas. Groundwater remained the primary source, accounting for 185.65 megalitres (97.27 megalitres from stress areas), followed by third-party sources at 119.58 megalitres (78.38 megalitres from stress areas). An additional 10.38 megalitres was drawn from other sources.

In comparison, during FY 2023–24, the company withdrew a total of 344.04 megalitres, with 231.27 megalitres from water stress areas. Groundwater extraction that year was higher at 226.94 megalitres, while third-party sourcing stood at 117.10 megalitres. There were no reported withdrawals from other sources in the year.

Waste Management
Being a manufacturing company, Havells has established appropriate processes for the proper collection, segregation, and safe disposal of waste. In FY 2024–25, Havells reduced the total waste generated by 20.57% compared to FY 2023–24.

In FY 2024–25, Havells made progress in diverting both hazardous and non-hazardous waste from disposal. The company recycled 1,197.05 metric tonnes (MT) of hazardous waste, a slight decrease from 1,442.05 MT in FY 2023–24. Additionally, 60 MT was managed through other recovery options, compared to 53.92 MT in the previous year. No hazardous waste was reported as re-used in either year.

For non-hazardous waste, the volume recycled saw an increase, reaching 27,199.04 MT in FY 2024–25, up from 25,058.69 MT in FY 2023–24. A significant increase was also noted in re-used waste, which rose to 14,246.89 MT from 3,682.11 MT the previous year. However, the volume handled through other recovery options slightly decreased to 158.54 MT from 295.52 MT.

Training
When it comes to training, the company’s total hours of training increased from 91,375.5 hours in FY 2023-24 to 2,10,627 hours in FY 2024-25 with average hours of training per employee increasing from 13.6 hours to 29.59 hours.
