The Industrial Transition Accelerator will launch its India Project Support Programme to speed up clean-industry investments and advance India’s low-carbon industrial growth.

ITA to launch India Programme to Accelerate Clean Industrial Projects

The Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA), a global initiative launched at COP28 to support decarbonisation in heavy industry, will launch its India Project Support Programme and prelease a report titled India Insights Briefing at a high-level event in New Delhi on November 4, 2025.

The launch of the ITA India Project Support Programme marks the start of its implementation, building on preparatory work conducted earlier in collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The implementation phase will focus on addressing key barriers to accelerate commercial-scale, near-zero emission industrial projects toward Final Investment Decisions (FID) through active engagement with government agencies, industry leaders, financial institutions, and other partners.

The Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) aims to translate global climate goals into practical industrial action by mobilising finance, aligning policies, and fostering industry partnerships. Through its country programmes, now active in India, Brazil, and the Middle East and North Africa, ITA focuses on moving projects to FID, developing shared infrastructure, and improving competitiveness in emission-intensive sectors.

At the upcoming event, the ITA and BCG will release “India Insights Briefing: Unlocking India’s Clean Industrialisation Opportunity,” a report that highlights how clean industrial growth can attract investment, enhance competitiveness, and support India’s leadership in the clean economy. The report also identifies major investment challenges and outlines steps to enable large-scale industrial decarbonisation.

As part of its analysis, the ITA has mapped over 65 potential clean-industry projects across aluminium, steel, cement, chemicals, and aviation, identifying those with the potential to reach FID and evaluating the barriers that limit progress.

The release of the India Insights Briefing and a closed-door workshop on November 4 will set the stage for this transition. The workshop will bring together government officials, industry representatives, financiers, and value-chain stakeholders to discuss ways to overcome investment barriers and define short-term actions to move clean industrial projects from planning to implementation.

James Schofield, Managing Director, Industrial Transition Accelerator, said, “India’s industrial transformation represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive economic growth and climate ambition. Through this programme we aim to show that decarbonisation can be commercially viable and scalable. With abundant low-cost energy, a dynamic private sector, and strong policy momentum, India is well-placed to lead the global shift to clean materials, fuels, and technologies.”

Sumit Gupta, APAC Leader – Climate & Sustainability Practice, Boston Consulting Group, said, “India’s growing clean-industrial pipeline reflects both the scale of ambition and the urgency for execution. The ITA’s India Project Support Programme is a timely step to accelerate innovative technologies toward investment and deployment.”

Yash Kashyap, India Lead, Industrial Transition Accelerator, added, “This insight briefing is the first step in developing a support programme to fast-track India’s clean-industrial pipeline. We will turn India’s decarbonisation potential into bankable, commercial-scale projects by addressing barriers in policy, finance, and technology.”
