Serentica Signs India’s First “Load-Following” PPA With SECI for 100 MW Flexible Clean Power
Serentica signed India’s first “load-following” renewable PPA with SECI, offering a flexible 100 MW clean energy supply tailored to hourly demand—set to boost grid reliability and accelerate decarbonisation.
Serentica Signs India’s First “Load-Following” Renewable PPA
Serentica Renewables has made a landmark move by signing a 100 MW “round-the-clock” renewable power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) — the country’s first-ever load-following renewable contract. This agreement demonstrates how renewable energy can supply reliable, demand-matched power for state distribution companies (DISCOMs) and industrial consumers.
How the Load-Following PPA Works
Unlike traditional fixed-schedule contracts, Serentica commits to meeting at least 80% of each month’s hourly demand profile. Output will vary dynamically, from 17 MW during low demand to 100 MW at peak hours, closely aligning renewable generation with actual consumption. This approach reduces surplus or shortage risks while accelerating the transition from coal to clean power.
Technology Mix: Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage
To deliver dispatchable power, Serentica will combine wind and solar generation with battery energy storage systems (BESS). This integrated setup ensures always-on clean electricity, expected to supply over 400 GWh annually, proving that renewables can be both sustainable and grid-stable.
Market Impact
CEO Akshay Hiranandani called the deal “a new standard in India’s renewable journey,” noting that its innovative structure could influence future procurement by showing that green energy can meet demand anytime, not just when the sun shines or the wind blows.
