Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan reviewed major river-linking projects and water conservation initiatives during a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan was briefed on river-linking projects and water conservation measures during a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti in New Delhi on 9 June.
Union Minister for Jal Shakti C. R. Patil, Minister of State Raj Bhushan Choudhary and senior officials from the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation attended the meeting.
According to the Vice-President's Secretariat, officials presented updates on the Ken-Betwa Link Project, the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project and the Godavari-Cauvery Link Project.
Officials also presented details of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) programme and its groundwater recharge activities.
The Vice-President was informed that more than 1.55 crore water conservation and groundwater recharge structures have been reported under JSJB 2.0.
The briefing included information on water conservation, groundwater recharge and projects being implemented by the Department of Water Resources.
During the meeting, Radhakrishnan said river-linking projects were associated with water availability, irrigation and drought-related issues. He said mindset-related and political factors often affect implementation.
He also suggested documenting major water infrastructure projects, including the Ken-Betwa Link Project, through archival records and documentary films.
The Ministry briefed the Vice-President on preparations for India International Water Week, scheduled to be held in September 2026.
During the meeting, Patil and Choudhary invited the Vice-President to attend the event.
