The Centre has approved large-scale MSP procurement of pulses and oilseeds across four states to provide price support and protect farmers from distress sales.
The Union Government has approved the procurement of large quantities of pulses and oilseeds at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in four states Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to safeguard farmers from distress sales and provide them remunerative prices.
The decision was taken during a video conference chaired by Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday.
Uttar Pradesh is the largest beneficiary under the Summer Procurement Plan 2026. The Centre has cleared procurement of 48298 metric tonnes (MT) of moong, 97970 MT of urad and 41718 MT of groundnut for the state, whose total MSP value is more than ₹1490 crore. The move is expected to support pulse and oilseed farmers by ensuring procurement at MSP.
Under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), procurement of 18,250 MT of moong has been approved for Summer 2026 season in Gujarat with an MSP value of ₹160 crore+, which is expected to help farmers receive better prices for their produce.
The Centre increased the procurement target for moong for Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2025–26 from 885 MT to 990 MT in Tamil Nadu. The additional procurement of 105 MT is valued at approximately ₹8.68 crore at MSP.
Haryana has also been granted permission to buy moong for 2,115 MT during the Summer of 2026 with an MSP value of more than ₹18 crore. The step is intended to improve farmers' price support mechanisms.
The decision expands MSP procurement for pulses and oilseeds across the four states and is expected to provide price support to farmers during the procurement season.
