Delhi Assembly Goes Green With Solar Power And NeVA Launch
The Delhi Legislative Assembly takes a big step toward sustainability and digital reform with the launch of a 500-kW rooftop solar plant and the (NeVA) for paperless governance.
In a big push towards clean energy adoption and digital administration, Union Minister of Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, inaugurated a 500-kW rooftop solar power plant at the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Saturday. As part of the solar plant, he also launched the National eVidhan Application (NeVA) aimed at e-vidhanization of legislative proceedings to ensure greater transparency and paperless governance.
The 500-kW solar system installed on the roof of the Assembly building is expected to cut down electricity bills and the carbon footprint of the legislature considerably and become an example for green government buildings. By switching to solar, the Delhi Assembly becomes one of the few legislative institutions in the country to actively contribute to India’s clean energy mission.
During the event, Meghwal stressed the need to incorporate renewable energy into public sector organisations and cited the solar power plant as a demonstration of climate leadership in policymaking. He stressed the importance of renewable energy integration in government buildings, not only to reduce costs but also to set an example for climate responsibility and energy independence.
The event was not only about solar panels. The NeVA platform, which was also launched during the event, is a centralized software platform that facilitates paperless operations of Indian state legislatures. It seeks to enhance legislative effectiveness, transparency, and accessibility.
Together, the two initiatives are part of India's overall vision to promote renewable power, drive the Digital India initiative, and shift towards a low-carbon economy.
