A rehabilitation camp in Mumbai provided 154 artificial limbs to 104 persons with disabilities, offering prosthetic support and mobility assistance through free assessments and fittings.
A rehabilitation camp organised by Narayan Seva Sansthan in Mumbai provided 154 artificial limbs to 104 persons with disabilities on June 14, according to organisers.
The camp distributed upper-limb, lower-limb and multiple-limb prostheses after medical assessments were conducted to determine individual requirements. The artificial limbs were provided free of cost.
Narayan Seva Sansthan, a Udaipur-based non-profit organisation working in disability rehabilitation and healthcare, organised the programme as part of its ongoing rehabilitation activities. Medical teams conducted screenings and measurements before fitting beneficiaries with prosthetic devices.
Maharashtra Cabinet Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mangal Prabhat Lodha attended the event along with Manju Lodha. Representatives of Radha Krishna Charitable Foundation (USA), social worker Niti Goyal, patron Satya Bhushan Jain, Branch President Mahesh Agarwal, Trustee and Director Devendra Choubisa, and Foreign Department In-charge Ravish Kawadia were also present.
Organisers said the prosthetic devices were manufactured using 3D-printing technology and customised according to individual measurements collected during the assessment process.
Addressing the gathering, Lodha said access to mobility aids can help persons with disabilities improve independence and participation in daily life. He also referred to the need for wider access to rehabilitation services.
The Mumbai programme followed a measurement camp conducted by Narayan Seva Sansthan in May to identify people requiring corrective surgeries. Organisers said the exercise was intended to assess medical and rehabilitation needs among applicants.
The organisation recently conducted a mass wedding ceremony for persons with disabilities in Delhi involving 21 couples.
According to figures released by Narayan Seva Sansthan, more than 39,000 people have received artificial limbs through its programmes. The organisation also reported providing free medical treatment and related healthcare services to more than 452,000 beneficiaries.
Narayan Seva Sansthan founder Kailash Manav Agarwal received the Padma Shri in 2008 for contributions to social service. In 2023, organisation president Prashant Agarwal received a National Award from President Droupadi Murmu for work related to the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The Mumbai camp focused on providing prosthetic support to persons with disabilities identified through medical assessments and rehabilitation screening.
