Mumbai Records Coldest November Morning in 10 Years at 16.2°C
Mumbai hit its lowest November temperature in a decade as Santacruz dipped to 16.2°C—5°C below normal.
Mumbai has experienced the coldest November morning today in at least 10 years. The Santacruz observatory recorded a lowest temperature of 16.2 degrees Celsius which is 5°C below normal. Whereas the Colaba observatory along the coast reported 21.6°C.
This cooling trend has come because Mumbai had an unusually early cold spell for November and as per the data issued by the India Meteorological Department, the temperatures are expected to rise in the next few days. Mumbai first recorded the minimum temperature dipping below 20°C on November 9 and since then, the minimums have remained steadily below normal.
IMD says that this is Mumbai’s coldest November day in the last 10 years. Earlier, the lowest November temperature for this 10-year period was 16.3°C, which was recorded on November 11, 2016. Another lowest temperature was recorded 16.5 degrees Celsius in 2024. The time when Mumbai recorded the coldest temperature was 13.3°C, way back in 1950.
According to IMD, the current cold weather is happening due to cold winds from both north and northeast blowing into central and southern parts of India. It was clarified by the scientists that this does not mean that winter has begun, since according to the IMD, the actual months of winter are January and February.
Earlier this month, Mumbai also recorded its coldest November daytime temperature in a decade, when the maximum temperature fell to 27°C on November 2. That earlier drop, however, was due to unseasonal rain in the first week of November — unlike the present cold wave, which is wind-driven.
