Siemens Healthineers Supports Manipal Hospice Therapy Block

In a major fillip to the palliative and rehabilitative care in India, Siemens Healthineers has extended its hand of support to the newly opened Therapy Block at the Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre (MHRC). The centre was opened in May by Justice S Abdul Nazeer, Andhra Pradesh Governor, and commenced operations full-time from June.

MHRC's Therapy Block is a 6,100-square-meter facility, carefully planned to deliver extensive rehabilitative and supportive care with specialized areas for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, mind-body therapy, swallow and speech therapy, occupational therapy in the home, and counseling. The Therapy Block has been designed to maximize the comfort, independence, and dignity of patients while meeting their physical, cognitive, and emotional needs.

Commenting on the partnership, Hariharan Subramanian, Managing Director of Siemens Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., said, "The Therapy Block at the Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre, a first-of-its-kind hospice care project in India, meets vital unmet needs of terminally ill patients. Our partnership with MAHE in developing this therapy block demonstrates our common commitment to enabling positive health outcomes and improving society's well-being in the communities we operate in."

Driving Impact Through Collaboration

This donation is part of the vision of Siemens Healthineers to lead breakthroughs in healthcare anywhere, for anyone. The partnership between the company and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is just one example of industry-academia collaboration that can unlock the future of care delivery and empower healthcare providers along the continuum of patient care—from prevention and early detection to diagnosis, treatment, and aftercare.

MAHE Vice Chancellor M.D. Venkatesh stated, "MHRC is a pioneering initiative that strengthens our commitment to providing specialized, compassionate, and academically informed healthcare. The assistance of Siemens Healthineers and other stakeholders has been crucial in materializing this vision."

The Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre, a 100-bed centre on 12 acres, is the only Indian hospice that has affiliation with both a hospital and a university. It is India's second largest hospice and plans to cater to both cancer and non-cancer patients. The hospice delivers respite care and end-of-life care to adults and children alike, extending its mission of holistic and compassionate care.
