Strong winds swept across Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning as clouds covered the sky, bringing a noticeable change in weather.
The weather in Delhi-NCR changed on Thursday morning as strong winds began blowing and clouds covered the sky. Residents in Noida and nearby areas got relief from the intense heat due to the cooler breeze, although sunshine was still visible in some places.
The reason for this is because there was a severe sandstorm which swept across the city yesterday evening. There had been heavy winds along with some rain recorded in many parts of the city. The maximum wind speed at Palam was recorded at 120 kilometres per hour.
According to a report Delhi had witnessed extreme heat throughout the week before the storm with temperatures going up to 43.5 degrees Celsius. The hot weather was a cause for discomfort during the day.
The IMD has predicted thunderstorms, squalls, and showers from June 10 to June 14 in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of Rajasthan.
The pre-monsoon season is likely to pick up momentum from June 11 onwards. Flights from Dubai, Mumbai, and Agartala headed towards Delhi had to be diverted due to poor visibility conditions owing to strong wind and drizzle.
As per IMD, the probability of western disturbances prevailing in the area is very high on June 11. This implies that winds will blow with a speed of 60-70 kmph, with the probability of light rains. A dip in temperature by 7-8 degrees is anticipated by the weather department due to this phenomenon. Thunderstorms with light rain are expected on June 12.
